Oliver Grothe received his doctorate at the Research Training Group for Risk Management from the University of Cologne (2008) and habilitated there in 2013. He holds university diplom degrees in Physics and in Business Administration. He gained practical insights through his consulting work on quantitative risk management for energy suppliers. Since 2015, he holds the Chair of Analytics and Statistics at KIT. Professor Grothe has numerous, interdisciplinary research interests at the interface between statistics and machine learning. His particular areas of focus include dependence structures in high-dimensional data and processes, risk measurement and financial market modeling, problems in medical statistics, and practically relevant questions related to energy markets and energy supply. For him, teaching at a research university has the task of inspiring students at an early stage and at a high methodological level for their own research and innovation work. With its international research strength, its flexible and individualizable study programs, and a founder network close to the university, the KIT-Faculty of Economics and Management and the KIT as a whole provide the ideal environment for this.
