From the winter semester 2023/24, the Study and Examination Regulations (SPO) 2023 with a separate curriculum will apply to all first-year students. Applications are possible for the first time from the winter semester 2023/24.

Structure of the Master's degree program in Digital Economics

SPO 2023: Valid for students from the first semester class WS 2023/24

The Master's degree program in Digital Economics has a standard period of study of four semesters and comprises 120 credit points. The foundation program is methodologically oriented and leads to the acquisition of the fundamentals important for Digital Economics. Depending on personal interests and goals, the specialist knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's program can be expanded and deepened within the curriculum.

The following figure shows the subject and module structure with the allocation of credit points (CP) and an example of a possible distribution of the modules over the semesters.

It is up to the individual study planning (taking into account the relevant specifications in the study and examination regulations as well as any module regulations) in which semester the selected module examinations are started or completed. However, it is recommended that all other coursework for the Master's examination be completed before the start of the Master's thesis.

The description of the Master's degree program Digital Economics according to the Study and Examination Regulations 2022 can be found in the corresponding module handbook.

Graduates of the Master's degree course in Digital Economics have in-depth and extended knowledge of advancing digitalization and the associated transformation processes in the economy and society. They are able to recognize and explain the effects on competition, politics, macroeconomics and social policy. They are able to analyze these processes methodically from different perspectives, as they have developed skills in the following areas Digital Economics, Financial Digital Economics, Economics and Management, Statistics, Econometrics and Optimization Theory, Applied Computer Science with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, and Digitalization and Society with ethical and sociological aspects of digital transformation.

In this bilingual degree program, students work on and evaluate the international dimensions and interrelationships of these subject areas.
They are able to work, present and discuss academically in both German and English.

With the help of the extensive elective and specialization options offered by the degree program, students develop their own areas of specialization. At least one seminar paper and the Master's thesis deepen their profile and expand their ability to write academic papers independently.

Graduates of the Master's degree program in Digital Economics are able to evaluate, select and combine suitable alternative courses of action on research-relevant topics. They can transfer and apply these to specific problems. In doing so, they evaluate complexity and recognize risks and potential for improvement and develop sustainable and responsible solutions using innovative methods.

Graduates of the Master's degree program in Digital Economics are able to exchange ideas with experts at an academic level and to
take on responsibility, also in an international team. They are particularly qualified for strategic fields of activity in all areas of public administration
public administration, in non-governmental organizations, in all areas of the private sector affected by digitalization, in scientific research institutions and for a subsequent academic career (doctorate).
