Digital Economics
The digital transformation has entered all areas of life and is constantly changing them. How will economic processes, the world of work, consumer behavior and mobility concepts develop and how do we want to shape them? What methods does the digital transformation offer for analyzing economic issues? The study program "Digital Economics" is dedicated to precisely these questions.
Why study Digital Economics at KIT?
This speaks for the study program:
- In terms of content, it examines the digital transformation processes with a focus on their effects on competition policy, macroeconomics and sociopolitics.
- Methodologically, it teaches the basic knowledge of economics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, and operations research, as well as the modern methods of econometrics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
- The study of legal and ethical aspects of digital transformation rounds out the course offerings.
Is the Digital Economics program right for me?
We offer our bachelor's and master's degree programs for those who want to intensively acquire modern quantitative methods and who are also interested in economic, social science and ethical issues, especially those related to digital transformation.
In the basic studies of the bachelor's degree, you will gain sound knowledge in the core subjects:

From the fourth semester on, you can deepen your focus of study individually and according to your interests.
The master's program is initially dedicated to Economics (with Digital Economics, Digital Financial Economics, and Economics and Management) and Methods (Informatics and Machine Learning, Statistics and Econometrics, and Computation and Optimization).
In the further course of the program, this content is supplemented by Digitization and Society and a wide range of elective modules.
Note on application: The start of the newly designed Bachelor's and Master's program in Digital Economics is planned for the winter semester 23/24. The consecutive Master's program in Technical Economics is no longer expected to be offered to new enrollees as of winter semester 23/24.*
Start of study
The KIT Faculty of Economics and the WiWi Student Council support the start of studies with various offers, such as the O-Phase.
