Final theses and written performance reviews or other types of examinations
The study and examination regulations of the WiWi degree programs stipulate that together with
- final theses (Bachelor's and Master's theses),
- written work as part of performance assessments or other types of examinations (seminar papers, term papers, homework, etc.)
a written declaration is submitted primarily about the independent writing of this work.
Work that does not contain the required declaration or does not contain it completely or correctly will not be accepted.
The form and content of this declaration differ depending on whether the thesis belongs to the first or second group.
Declaration for final theses (Bachelor's and Master's theses)
The WiWi study and examination regulations with official announcement and validity before 2015 regulate the exact content of the obligatory declaration, but do not specify the exact wording. The WiWi study and examination regulations from 2015 onwards regulate the content in the same way and also contain a non-binding but exemplary text proposal (here in a subsequently completed version):
"I truthfully declare that I have written the thesis independently, that I have fully and accurately cited all sources and aids used and have indicated everything that has been taken from the work of others unchanged or with modifications and that I have observed the KIT statutes for safeguarding good scientific practice in the currently valid version."
This sample text can therefore also be used for theses according to the WiWi-SPO before 2015. (It is true that the old WiWi-SPO still refer to the relevant statutes of the "Universität Karlsruhe (TH)" where the safeguarding of good scientific practice is concerned. However, the current version of this is shown as the KIT statutes).
In the case of papers that are written entirely in English, this declaration can also be submitted in English in agreement with the responsible examiner, taking into account all the information specified in terms of content.
Declaration for written work as part of performance assessments or other types of examinations
Written work as part of performance assessments or other types of examinations, such as seminar papers, term papers, assignments, etc., must be accompanied by a declaration with the exact wording specified. This applies in the same way for the WiWi-SPO before and after 2015.
"I declare truthfully that I have completed the work independently, that I have listed all the resources used completely and accurately and that I have marked everything that has been taken from other people's work unchanged or with modifications."
Deviations from this wording are not permitted.
