Graduation with final examination and re-registration
The SPO of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in economics at KIT do not provide for a final examination. Instead, all examinations from the first semester onwards are relevant for graduation.
In addition, the SPOs stipulate that the degree program may only be completed with an examination (according to the SPO definition). The graduation date is the date of the last examination. The final thesis (Bachelor's and Master's thesis) also counts as an examination. It should be noted here that the last proven part of the performance assessment is used as the examination date. If this includes a presentation and this is after submission of the thesis, the presentation date is the examination date.
The degree is usually planned on the basis of proof of the final thesis. However, this does not have to be the case. In principle, the degree can be completed with any examination, provided that this is not restricted in individual cases by curricular requirements or module examination conditions.
According to the SPO, it is not permitted to graduate with a course achievement. If this requirement is violated, the last passed examination is usually booked as an additional achievement (does not apply to final theses or seminar achievements). In this way, graduation is guaranteed with an examination.
Degree only with re-registration in the final semester
From WS 2022/23, the extended examination period will no longer apply. From then on, the usual semester dates will apply for the assignment of completed work. If, for example, a thesis cannot be completed within the semester in which it was registered, the student must re-register for the next semester in order to graduate.
