Application for an extension of the processing time for the thesis (Bachelor's and Master's thesis)
If the deadline specified in the respective SPO for completing the thesis is not sufficient, the Examination Board may extend the deadline for submitting the thesis upon justified request by the student. For the
- Bachelor's thesis by up to 1 month
- Master's thesis by up to 3 months
Procedure:
First, written consent must be obtained from the primary examiner or, on their behalf, a representative of the relevant institute, e.g., by means of a letter written by the student. This letter must state the original submission deadline, the requested new submission deadline, and a brief explanation of the reason for the delay. It must also be clear who from the institute has signed the approval (+ date, + institute stamp). If the signature is not provided directly by the examiner but by a responsible institute employee, the wording must indicate that the approval is granted after consultation with the responsible examiner.
The application itself must be submitted via an online form in the WiWi portal. This is a paperless process. The institute's approval is uploaded beforehand.
Processing time/notification:
As a rule, a maximum processing time of 3 weeks is to be expected. Upon approval, the decision will be sent by the Examinations Office by e-mail to the applicant's KIT e-mail account. The new submission date is usually posted in the system in the following days.
Timing of the application
The application should be submitted as soon as it becomes apparent that the submission deadline will not be sufficient. If this only becomes apparent shortly before submission, an application is still possible in principle. Even if the decision can then only be made after the original submission deadline has expired.
