Seminars in the MSc Program Information Systems (SPO 2019)
In the program, two mandatory seminars must be completed in the subject "Seminars," each with at least 3 ECTS credits. The subject contains 4 seminar modules, named after the other subjects in the program. The relevant seminar offerings of the two faculties are assigned to one of the seminar modules. This assignment can be found in the module handbook. The seminars taken in the subject must be chosen from different seminar modules.
Performance Assessment in the Mandatory Seminar
The performance assessment in the mandatory seminar is a Prüfungsleistung anderer Art (see SPO WiInf 2019, § 4 Abs. 2 - III.).
The examination process usually begins with the binding acceptance of a seminar place offer (details and any deviations from this can be found in the specific seminar announcement/information or with the seminar leader).
The examination process ends after successfully demonstrating the following achievements:
- Regular and active participation in the course sessions
- Preparation of a seminar paper (group work is also possible) on a sub-aspect of the seminar topic (effort: approx. 60 hours)
- Presentation during one of the seminar sessions
In the case of irregular participation or withdrawal from participation without valid and understandable reasons, a grade of 5.0 – failed will be awarded.
Repeating a Failed Seminar
The repetition of a failed seminar can take place in the same seminar course but in a later semester and on a different topic.
However, it is also permissible to choose another seminar course and even in a different seminar module for the repetition (standard variant). Registration for the repeat performance is done through the WiWi Prüfungssekretariat and not through the campus system. Important: Even taking another seminar course and in a different module counts as a second attempt and not as another first attempt to replace the previous failed attempt.
Application for a Seminar Place and Registration
The seminar is a course with limited places, which is due to the expected active participation of the participants in this course format, who all contribute to the design and success of the seminar.
Where there are more applicants than places, a selection is made by the seminar leader. The application to participate in seminars from the Faculty of Economics (including AIFB) is done through the WiWi portal, see also here.
Details regarding the application and registration for the seminar should be obtained there.
