Restructuring of the basic modules in business administration and mathematics from the first semester class WS 2021/22

Here: Timetable for expiring courses and examinations according to the old structure - change to new modules or new module content for students in higher semesters

From the first semester cohort WS 2021/22, a new module structure will apply in the basic studies in the subjects of Business Administration and Mathematics. The new modules will replace the previous foundation modules in both subjects. Courses and examinations in the old structure will continue to be offered in the affected Bachelor's degree programs beyond the semester limit provided for in the curriculum, namely in both subjects until the end of the standard period of study of the first semester year WS 2020/21 (without taking into account individual semesters of leave). The change to the new module structure is also possible for students who are in the higher semester in WS 2021/22 under the conditions described below.

A. Courses and examinations offered under the old module structure from WS 21/22

1 Mathematics

The examinations offered to students according to the old module structure will be continued in oral form. To prepare for examinations, some of the courses offered under the new module structure can be used.

a) Courses offered

The regular offer of lectures according to the old structure ends with the winter semester 21/22. In addition to the opportunity to participate in teaching according to the new module structure described below, there are video recordings of the lectures Mathematics 1 and 2 according to the old module structure. These can be found in the current ILIAS courses of the mathematics courses (according to the new module structure). The exercise materials offered there can also be used for the old module structure.

Participation in mathematics teaching according to the new module structure

As a result of the restructuring with largely the same content, the old and new modules differ largely only in terms of shifts in content. This is due to the new Mathematics 1, which is more extensive in terms of content, and the new Mathematics 3, which is less extensive in terms of content.
Due to the basic retention of the content, students with the old module structure have the opportunity to take part in teaching according to the new module structure in preparation for the oral examinations according to the old module structure. The following table shows the approximate location of the content of the old lectures in the new teaching structure:

Examinations according to the old module structure Locations of the material in the new module structure
Mathematics 1 semester exam (old) First third of the new Mathematics 1 VL
Mathematics 1 final exam (old) Second third of the new Mathematics 1 VL
Mathematics 2 semester exam (old) Last third of the new Mathematics 1 VL
Mathematics 2 final exam (old) First half of the new Mathematics 2 VL
Mathematics 3 Final exam (old) Second half of the new Mathematics 2 VL
and the entire new mathematics 3 VL

This information only serves as a rough guide for finding the examination content according to the old module structure, as there may be changes to the content of the lectures according to the new module structure.

b) Examinations offered

The range of examinations according to the old module structure will be maintained in the form of oral examinations. The oral examinations will be scheduled close to the written examinations of the same name according to the new module structure. This applies to both main and follow-up dates.

Announcements of the oral examinations and detailed topic delimitations can be found in the current ILIAS courses for the mathematics courses (according to the new module structure).

2. business administration

The range of courses and examinations will be continued until the end of the standard period of study (= 6+3 semesters, at the latest by winter semester 2020/21) of the last cohort according to the old structure (without taking into account individual semesters of leave). Accordingly, until WS 2024/25.

a) Range of courses

In the subject of Business Administration, the course offerings for the old courses will be consistently converted to online teaching at the end of the last scheduled Accounting course in WS 21/22. These are recordings of previous lectures and the accounting tutorial. Tutorial tasks are also offered online with sample solutions. In WS21/22, this will already affect the Business Administration FR and Business Administration UI courses.

b) Examinations offered

Examinations will be offered as long as the course is offered. The examinations will be scheduled for the dates on which the thematically appropriate examinations are offered in accordance with the new module structure. (This regulation applies subject to a possible switch to oral examinations if the number of participants is low). Please note: Should the individual examination planning result in a first attempt being taken in writing but a second attempt being offered orally, affected candidates must submit an application to the Examination Board prior to admission and registration. Further details can be obtained from the WiWi Examinations Office.

B. Change to the new module structure or to new courses from WS 21/22 (higher semesters)

1. change to the new modules in mathematics

If an examination has already been taken or assessed according to the old module structure in Mathematics up to and including the examination period SoSe 2021, a change is no longer possible. However, students who have not yet taken a graded examination according to the old structure in WS 21/22 will receive the new module structure.

2. change to new module structure or new course offer in Business Administration

A change is only possible if the module Fundamentals of Business Administration II has not yet been started with a graded examination by the SoSe 2021 examination period at the latest. However, students who have not yet taken or graded an examination according to the old structure in WS 21/22 will receive the new module structure.

Change to new course offerings in the module Business Administration Basics II

If the module examination for BWL Grundlagen II has not yet begun at the end of the SoSe 21 examination period, it is possible to replace the old module content with components from the new course. However, the module BWL Grundlagen I with its examinations BWL UI, BWL FR must still be completed in any case.

The new contents are specified with the corresponding CP:

  1. Financial statements and valuation - 2 CP
  2. Marketing - 3 CP
  3. Production and logistics - 3 CP

The replacement of the old module content with the new content can be initiated from WS 21/22 via an online application in the WiWi portal.

Change application in the WiWi portal

From WS 21/22, a paperless form from the Examination Board will be available in the WiWi-Portal forms section at https://portal.wiwi.kit.edu/forms/form/Wechselantrag, which can be used to cover all possible changes.
